PCT Poll Shows Rodents As Biggest Pest Challenge in Schools

The PCT (Pest Control Technology) site recently conducted a reader poll that revealed that among school facilities, rodents we the most challenging pests. According to the poll, 38% cited rodents as the biggest problem, while 29% said that stinging insects were the biggest challenge in schools.

According to the article, (which was conducted in Cleveland but could be equally applicable to the Philadelphia area), schools face a challenge with rodents largely because of the sheer number of entry points. In urban schools especially, which are often older, there are a large number of entrances for rodents. In addition, schools are often limited by their budgets and do not have the staff necessary to lay down and check traps on a daily basis.

The article also notes that schools in states that include more regulation, like New Jersey, also have to ensure that everyone is on the same page as far as looking after all of the rodent control needs. Schools must have a compliant program in place, and ensure that everyone is following the rules.
